CalidaA 1st product review! Aug 24, 2011 11:06 PM I decided to stop buying cosmetics that I usually don't buy from Target/Walmart, even though they're cheaper there than at Ulta... simply because at Ulta, if I don't like the product, I can return it (with a receipt). At Target... I'm not so sure (can I?) O_o?   Anyway, so here's a list of products I will review: L'Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes - Carbon Black Revlon Cushion Grip Lash Curler NYX Super SKINNY Eye Marker - Carbon Black Revlon Just Bitten Lip Stain + Balm - Gothic   BUT before I start, I must tell you why I decided to blog this.   It's no secret, I'm Asian American. But because of my super-Asian-genes, I have single eyelids (is that the right term? Basically, NOT double eye-lids) and the concept of deep-set eyes are very mysterious. This may not seem like a big deal to most people, and I don't get me wrong, I like my eyes ^^;; But there many problems not covered in regular reviews and tutorials for my eye shape.   Here's a picture for you to see what I mean: Vs.    Common problems include smudging, creasing, weird effects that don't happen on deep set eyes, and did I mention smudging? Yeah.   Now that that's been covered, onto the product reviews!   1. L'Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes - Carbon Black I read some good reviews on this and decided to deviate from my normal Cover Girl LashBlastFusion. I think I'll be going back to LashBlast.   Price: $8.99 Pros: Very dramatic! Formula goes on very well, the brush is easy enough to manage. Cons: Very dramatic! I was hoping for something that I could build on. After 3 coats I was borderlining spider-lashes. Single-Eye-Lid Review: FAIL. It smuged everywhere. I didn't opt for the waterproof, because I find it difficult to control where the product goes when I make mistakes O_o Million Lashes is also too drying for my semi-sensitive contact wearing eyes.   Overview: It's a great product if you're looking for a mascara under $10 that will give you dramatic results in a jiffy! But it's definitely not for me.     2. Revlon Cushion Grip Lash Curler Price: $5.49 Pros: I works very well, is gentle, has a good spring, has a clamp in-between to keep the curler closed, and has a rubber cushion refill! Cons: None.   Overview: It works well and is great and affordable for the normal make-up bag eyelash curler.     3. NYX Super SKINNY Eye Marker - Carbon Black Price: $8.99 Pros: Inky, produces a thin-line, easy to handle/hold, easy to apply, cute packaging. Cons: Has no staying power. Single-Eye-Lid Review: FAIL. It made a beautiful line. It was easy to apply. But when I opened my eyes, it reapplied itself to my upper lid! Then when I tried to get the product off with a cue-tip, it got everywhere!   Overview: It stayed on pretty well for my right eye (its crease is a little wider than the left eye), but totally faded within minutes on my left eye T__T I was really disappointed because I really liked this product, it seemed very promising! For someone with deep-set eyes or for eyelids that do not overlap the way mine do, this eyeliner is a gem because of its ease and inkiness :D     4. Revlon Just Bitten Lip Stain + Balm - Gothic Price: $8.99 (what is with this $8.99 pattern? O_o) Pros: Easy to use/handle, has a lip balm included at the bottom, marker tip is stiff for easy application. Cons: This color is very dramatic! I'll have to use it during colder months... I'll put up a more detailed review of it then. Overview: TBA :D     I hope my reviews were helpful, somewhat >_<   As for the eye make up, I have to tell you that today, I did not apply primer, so the Million Lashes and Super Skinny Marker could not stay on their own on my eyes. I will show you: This is WITHOUT the eye liner, too >_<   But you know what this means right? Back to Ulta I go! :D
Baigneuse My Beauty-Related Desert Island Must-Haves Feb 18, 2010 5:23 AM I would like to begin this post by fixing the paradox of the almighty "Desert Island Must-Haves" question: whatever you bring, you will be granted an endless supply of.  Yes, this has always bothered me, and I am glad to finally get that off of my chest.  I would also like to say that there is a reason for this post.  Whenever I hear this question answered, I almost always hear the same items: waterproof mascara, blush, tinted moisturizer or foundation, eyeliner, and the ridiculous list goes on.  So here it goes, my ten sensible, practical, beautiful must-haves.  [break]To find out more, keep reading.[/break]   Sunscreen - need I say more? Chapstik's 100% Natural Lip Balm - this is a personal favorite.  I've tried Aubrey Organics, Burt's Bees, and just about everything else under the sun, but this one certainly takes my cake. Olive Oil - this is an absolutely amazing multi-tasker!  I love it for my hair, nails, and skin. Insect Repellant - natural, of course. Toothbrush - quite necessary. Toothpaste - if I didn't have this, why bring the toothbrush? Asian Pear & Red Tea Color Protecting Shampoo for Dry, Damaged Hair by Nature's Gate - my absolute favorite shampoo, and I've tried oh so many! Asian Pear & Red Tea Color Protecting Conditioner for Dry Damaged Hair by Nature's Gate - my absolute favorite conditioner, and I've been quite the conditioner junkie. Rose Hydrosol (Rosewater) - while most toners do nothing (except dry my skin out), rosewater does everything.  It calms, soothes, hydrates, and evens, and what more could a girl ask for? My Homemade Moisturizer - A blend of some of my favorite things.  Mango butter, avocado oil, rosehip seed oil, apricot kernel oil, and aloe vera gel, all in one deliciously whipped moisturizer! So there you have it!  Hopefully I have inspired you, and if you ever do get stranded on a desert island, you'll choose SPF over mascara.
Baigneuse Comforting Cupcakes Feb 10, 2010 11:51 PM My all-time favorite scent, and dessert, is the ever-so-delicious buttercream cupcake.  And while I'm being honest here, my addiction extends far from the kitchen, and right into my bathroom.  After all, what could be more delicious than bathing in the aroma of cupcakes?  I, for one, can't think of a thing!  That's why I'm passing my scrumptious recipe for bubble bath perfection onto you.  Just don't try eating it!  [break]To find out more, keep reading.[/break]   "Comforting Cupcakes" Bubble Bath (Yeilds approximately 4.5 oz.) 4 oz. Liquid Castile Soap 1 tbsp. Honey 1 tsp. Birthday Cake Fragrance Oil 2 tbsp. Sunflower Oil

Baigneuse Face-mapping Feb 8, 2010 6:25 PM I found this chart very interesting and felt inclined to share.  Though it's not the be-all end-all for skin problems (my cheek breakouts undoubtedly come from resting on my hand), it's still quite fun to contemplate.  Besides face-mapping pertaining to specific parts of the body, I have also heard of categorizing skin types by the elements and by spiritual creatures, and determining ones personality and success in life based on physical characteristics.
